The Artist Behind Mountain Rusted

Art That Belongs to the Mountains

Mountain Rusted was born from a simple belief:

The most meaningful artwork isn’t chosen because it matches a room. It’s chosen because it tells a story.

Every Mountain Rusted piece begins in the mountains I love most—quiet mornings before sunrise, unexpected storms, and fleeting moments of light that exist for only a few seconds. Those moments become handcrafted works of art, framed in naturally rusted steel and designed to live in extraordinary homes for generations.

Whether it’s a limited-edition Mountain Rusted piece or a one-of-a-kind Legacy Commission, my goal is always the same:

To create artwork that means something long after the moment has passed.

My Journey

My name is Joe Hendricks, and I’ve spent more than 27 years behind a camera.

Photography has taken me around the world—from serving as a U.S. Navy Photographer’s Mate to documenting weddings, photographing adventurous elopements in Colorado’s San Juan Mountains, and chasing light through some of the most breathtaking landscapes in America.

While those experiences shaped me as a photographer, the mountains shaped me as an artist.

Some of my favorite mornings begin long before sunrise, driving dirt roads and hiking ridgelines in search of a moment that may only last a few minutes. Those are the moments that remind me why I fell in love with photography in the first place—not because they’re rare, but because they can’t be recreated.

More Than a Photograph

A Mountain Rusted piece isn’t simply a print in a frame.

The frame is part of the artwork.

Every frame is handcrafted from real steel and allowed to develop its own naturally weathered patina. No two pieces are exactly alike. The texture, character, and imperfections become part of the story, creating artwork that feels as authentic as the landscapes themselves.

Together, the photograph and the rusted steel create something neither could become on its own.

Built to Become a Legacy

I believe artwork should be more than decoration.

It should become part of a family’s story.

Some collectors choose one of our limited-edition Mountain Rusted pieces. Others commission a one-of-a-kind landscape created exclusively for their home.

Regardless of its size or collection, every Mountain Rusted artwork is built with the hope that decades from now it will still be hanging in the same place, reminding future generations why those mountains mattered.

Because the best art doesn’t simply fill a wall.

It becomes part of the home.
